Book-lovers and collectors meet at Weller Book Works Collectors' Book Salons on the last Friday of each month, January through October. Serious and frivolous bibliophiles meet in our Rare Book Department for friendship conversation, edification and bibliolust. We start at 6:30 pm. An invited bibliophile leads the Collectors' Chat about a topic of her or his particular knowledge and passion. And at each salon there is also a special deal on rare books.
This month, we celebrate 90 years of bookselling in Salt Lake City, so for the Collectors’ Book Salon on August 30th, we’ll have a special bookstore focused program. Instead of a specific speaker I am inviting guests to share memories of things experienced in our bookstore. Weller Book Works is a place where the experience of all humanity can be found. A bookstore may seem stayed to nonreaders but the readers and the space and time-defying magic of books make a bookstore a vast intersection of diversity and story. Join us this Friday for this conversation about Zion Bookstore, Sam Weller’s Books, and Weller Book Works. Can anyone show me a contraband edition of Lady Chatterley’s Lover orTropic of Cancer bought from Sam in 1940s? Does anyone remember meeting Gus?
